OWNER:  RICK PORTER

Fox Hill Farm is owned by Richard Porter, a native of Wilmington, Delaware. Rick bought his first horse in 1994 and has achieved considerable success in his dozen years of involvement as an owner. His best horses include Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Round Pond, King’s Bishop winner and Kentucky Derby and Breeders’ Cup Classic runner-up Hard Spun, Kentucky Derby runner-up Eight Belles, Remsen winners Rockport Harbor and Old Fashioned, and Alabama winner Jostle. He has also campaigned a number of other stakes winners.

With about 35-40 horses in training, the Fox Hill Farm horses are split among trainers Larry Jones and Jeff Barkley.  The yearlings are broken and receive their pre-training in South Carolina with Webb Carroll.

An enthusiastic owner, Rick enjoys greatly the challenge of horse racing. Despite success at the highest level, Rick can be spotted in the winner’s circle of a maiden or claiming race with a wide smile that could make onlookers think it was his first win if they didn’t know better.

Rick’s love for the sport is epitomized in this website, where Rick has nurtured a fan following for his stable. Not only does he get great enjoyment by sharing racing with fans, he believes that cultivating fans is much needed in racing and hopes to expand on the idea in the near future. Rick also believes that there’s areas of improvement needed within the sport and takes or plans to take an active role in seeing some of these improvements to fruition.

Rick’s family includes wife Betsy, son Cory and daughter-in-law Lee, daughter Tracey and son-in-law John, son Scott, and grandchildren Tim, Rebecca, Chessie, Lindsay, and Christina. Rick and Betsy also have two beloved Bichons, Babe and Daphne.
